MSC Service Enhancements 09/12/2002

Geneva, December 9, 2002

In view of severe congestion problems in South African Ports, which have resulted in delays and disruption to service schedules, Mediterranean Shipping Company S.A of Geneva Switzerland has reorganized their services to South Africa, Australia/New Zealand, Indian Ocean and between South Africa and Australia. These changes will restore schedule reliability and avoid the operational delays that have recently been experienced.
Revised and dedicated services will be introduced effective from the end of January 2003 to improve schedule integrity and enhance port coverage.

  • NORTH EUROPE/SOUTH AFRICA

A dedicated fixed day weekly service to South Africa from major European Ports will be introduced deploying 7 vessels on a port rotation of :

Felixstowe, One German Port, Antwerp, Le Havre, Las Palmas, Cape Town, Port Elizabeth, Durban, Port Elizabeth, Cape Town & back to Europe

Excellent connections will be provided at Las Palmas for Mediterranean cargo and greater schedule integrity will be achieved through lower transit volumes in Durban and additional flexibility allowed in the schedule. Competitive transit times and significant improvements in reliability will be achieved by this service adjustment.

  • EUROPE & MEDITERRANEAN /AUSTRALIA & NEW ZEALAND

A dedicated and revised service via the Suez Canal to Australia and New Zealand will be introduced in January 2003 deploying 14 vessels which will provide excellent transit times and improved schedule integrity, plus also encompass excellent direct links for the Mediterranean and New Zealand.

Antwerp, Felixstowe, Rouen, Le Havre, Valencia, La Spezia, Marseille, Pointe des Galets, Port Louis, Fremantle, Melbourne, Sydney, Tauranga, One New Zealand South Island East Coast Port.

Northbound, the rotation will be :
Tauranga, New Zealand South Island East Coast Port, Sydney, Melbourne, Adelaide, Fremantle, Singapore, Jeddah, La Spezia, Antwerp.

This will provide excellent additional export opportunities to Singapore, Jeddah and Mediterranean Ports via the Suez Canal and direct access for New Zealand exporters, previously served with transhipment services.

Excellent connections will be offered to Madagascar and Mayotte using MSC’S dedicated feeder service.
