Fraudulent use of counterfeit MSC Bills of Lading
Geneva, August 31, 2012
We have been alerted that a fraudulent company – Closeouts Warehouse, Miami – with a website claiming to be based in the United States (www.thecloseoutscenter.com) has used counterfeit MSC bills of lading to entice importers into buying products online with the promise of free shipping.
The names "Factories Liquidations Inc" (associated website: www.factoriesliquidations.com) and, more recently, "Products Liquidators" (associated website: www.productsliquidators.com) have also been used in connection with this scam
Cases reported to us so far involve importers in New Zealand, France, United Kingdom, Chile and El Salvador. The fraudulent company has provided importers who place online orders with counterfeit documents, amongst those fake (draft) MSC bills of lading, thereby attempting to illegally obtain funds from unsuspecting customers.
This fake Bill of Lading usually bears number MSCUC642985, container number MSCU8331589 (but this could be changed) and generally looks like this sample (.pdf).
We are working vigilantly with local authorities and affected parties to investigate the above incidents and try to ensure they do not happen again. We would like to request all our customers to remain alert of possible scam emails and fraudulent documents.
Please contact your local MSC office immediately if you have any cause for concern.
